Bandon Beach, Oregon – August 2010
Several years ago, on the advice of my sister-in-law, Chris, we loaded up the camper and drove over to Bandon to watch Fourth of July fireworks on the beach. What we discovered was the most photogenic beach in Oregon.
What makes Bandon Beach so appealing is the size and number of the sea stacks just offshore. They make for dramatic images when the weather cooperates; and they harbor plenty of fun sea creatures when the tide recedes. These gooseneck barnacles are but one example.

Chris tells us that there are two types of summer weather in Bandon: windy and sunny; or foggy and still. This morning we got foggy and still which meant we could sleep in.

It wasn’t long before The Boy began daring the surf to catch him. As you can see, it was a dare he lost.

After a while, The Boy decided that climbing some of the smaller sea stacks along the shore might be a new challenge that wouldn’t involve losing the feeling in his feet.

Climbing is fun. Jumping is more fun.

He may misjudge the surf but The Boy never misses a jump.

At lunch time there’s no better place to be than on 1st Street between Old Town Bandon and the marina. I’m talking the best fish and chips ever.

Bandon Fish Market, aka Bandon Fish & Chips, aka the “blue” one, gets my vote as the best seafood on the Oregon coast. We always walk out with enough food for lunch, dinner, and the next day’s lunch. Good stuff.

As we sat outside waiting for our order, Lewis set up his football helmets on the table. We’ve found that these little helmets generate a lot of interest from passers by. This time a man older than me stopped to reminisce about the set he used to own. He was a Steeler fan.
