What's New...

Death Valley National Park, January 2010 (added 02/2010)

It was a video shoot combined with a fortuitous free weekend that allowed me to return to Death Valley, my winter happy place. When Central Oregon is covered with snow, Death Valley is a place that is reliably sunny and warm...but not this weekend. Yet the clouds and colder temperatures did nothing to dampen our enthusiam as my buddy, Tim Sternberg, and I enjoyed a whirlwind run through this incredible landscape.

Portrait Session, May 2009 (added 05/2009)

When this spring’s school portrait turned out to be a little disappointing, I decided to take matters into my own hands. This was, after all, the only time when Lewis would be missing his two front teeth. His toothless mug needed to be properly documented. Once our Sunday afternoon photo shoot got going, I couldn’t stop with just one good shot. This is a collection of my favorite fifteen images from our session. And for anyone thinking that fifteen images is a little over the top, understand that a Certain Mom thought all fifty-two shots merited inclusion in the gallery and actually threatened bodily harm if I edited the group down to less than the fifteen presented here.

Southwest Deserts, March 2004 (added 04/2009)

This was our very first spring break trip as well as my first trip using a DSLR, a Canon 10D. After a brief stopover in Las Vegas, we hit three of my favorite desert parks: the desert perfection of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument; the wonderland of rocks that is Joshua Tree National Park; and my winter happy place, Death Valley National Park. This also turned out to be our final trip in the Subaru for reasons that will become apparent as the trip progresses.

Alaska, July-August 2008 (added 03/2009)

This five week road trip to Alaska and back is one that I've contemplated my entire adult life. To quote myself, "The 7,672 miles we traveled included nearly every paved mile of highway in Alaska and quite a few unpaved miles as well. Along the way, we encountered huge jellyfish, enormous moose, massive glaciers, and even more massive mountain ranges along with torrential rains, four punctured tires, one dead deer, a cracked windshield, and record gas prices. Alaska is indeed a land of superlatives – and we’ve got the photographs to prove it."

Winter 2008 (added 04/2008)

Our house is situated in a Ponderosa pine forest at an altitude of just under 4,000 feet. Although conditions vary from year to year, when meteorologists start talking about el nino we are pretty much assured that deep snow will transform our one and a half acres into a winter wonderland. This was never more true than during the winter of 2008, which dumped nearly four feet of snow on us and generated a curtain of six foot icicles. Fortunately, a certain boy was available to help us dig out.

Christmas Holidays, December 2007 (added 04/2008)

The 2007 Christmas holiday season was memorable for a number of reasons: we purchased our first fake Christmas tree; a certain boy was fully into everything Christmas for the first time; and Mimi & Papa T spent Christmas with us in Bend.

Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, July 2005 (added 02/2008)

This image set features Glacier National Park and its Canadian cousin, Waterton Lakes, known collectively as Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. No other park in the lower 48 states approaches the combination of spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife found in this section of the Rockies. Darla, Lewis, and I are joined by my parents, my niece, Claire, and my nephew, Timmy, as we enjoy mountain goats, grizzlies, vast fields of wildflowers, and my favorite hiking trail in any park.

Lewis Portraits (added 11/2007)

This page features the various portraits taken of Lewis over the years. It will be updated as new portraits are made. I also transferred the two most popular sets of Lewis images from my original site: Lewis and the Five Ducklings; and the The Pumpkin Patch.

Ryan & Faith's Wedding Shots, October 27, 2007 (added 11/2007)

This is a selection of favorite images from the wedding of my niece, Faith, and her husband, Ryan. I had never shot a wedding before when my brother-in-law asked me if I would be willing to take on this task. Fortunately for me, Faith and Ryan are both very photogenic and comfortable in front of a camera. Darla deserves the majority of credit for the best of these shots as she posed most of them.

Klamath National Wildlife Preserve, January 2005 (added 11/2007)

This collection features the thousands of creatures -- eagles, hawks, swans, geese, ducks, and otters -- that spend the winter at this amazing wildlife refuge on the California-Oregon border. The image set is not really new; it was transferred over from the first version of my web site.

Utah Spring Break, March 2007 (added 10/2007)

On our way back from this trip my wife and I both wondered aloud if there was a more beautiful state than Utah. This trip took us to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Arches. The drives between these parks were often as dramatic as the parks themselves. Over the course of the week we encountered everything from sunny warmth to blizzards but the most exciting meteorological event for me was the full moon over Delicate Arch. I made my first attempt at landscape photography under moonlight. It was amazing!.

Northern California, June-July 2007 (added 10/2007)

I don't think I've ever been more pleased with a set of images than the ones I captured on this swing through Northern California. Along the way, we stopped at the ghost town of Bodie, Devil's Postpile National Monument, the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks, and the renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium. The final five days of the trip, including the 4th of July, were spent exploring San Francisco. Several of my favorite photographs from this trip are featured on my home page but the whole collection can be viewed here.
